A pretty good weekend at the dirt track? Saturday night started with a great draw! I started the Heat race on the front row and drove away! I was feeling pretty good about the car and anticipated the track would stay fairly tacky for the rest of the night.
With such a great finish in the Heat I earned the front row outside starting position for the Feature. Again, I had a great start and distanced myself from the rest of the field! I pulled about a ten car lead in the first couple laps and kept the pedal to the metal! However, I was bit short on top end. The second place car was slowly reeling me back in. He caught me about lap 14 when I had a slight hick up with some lap traffic. By this time I had already had to force my way through probably 4 or 5 lap cars. I really had know idea that the pressure was on.  I got a bit loose entering turn one and decided to let the car run high in order to keep the revs up, which allowed the second place runner to grab the inside line. I followed him through turns three and four then found myself closing on him hard into turn one. We had found more traffic, and they were more like a traffic jam! I got into the inside of him and made some hard contact leaving me facing the wrong direction!  Restarting at the back now with only three laps to go, I carefully picked through some cars and completed the race with a ninth place finish. Although disappointing, it was still a good showing and we did not tear anything up. I sure could have used a little purse money though, the transporter is almost out of diesel!

3rd Place Finish at the 9/11 Memorial Special
Date: 9/6/08
Track: Cowtown Speedway
Team: Scott, Dad, Wade
Good weekend for ScottEvansRacing! Cowtown Speedway put on their 9/11 Memorial event last Saturday. They had music, three huge video screens and a fireworks display! A really well done presentation to bring friends and family together in remembrance.
Our race night began with heavy traffic that delayed the rig over an hour while on the way to the track. Luckily, Wade made it on time and was able to draw a 61 for me. I started fourth row outside in the second heat. I pulled off a third place finish and started third row outside in the feature. After, three complete restarts we finally got the race underway. The track had quickly dried out much more than we had expected so had very little bite anywhere on the track. I found a groove that seemed to be relatively fast and was able run a strong third. We had three more cautions right at the end of the race which proved to be neither advantageous or disadvantageous. So we had a good night finishing third.

SPECIAL THANKS TO GLO CUSTOM!!!

FIRST HEAT RACE WIN!!!  Well, Sully finally pulled a low number that positioned me on the front row of the heat. Wow! it is a lot easier to stay up front than it is to get there:) I was able to win the Heat and start on the pole of the Feature. Thanks to FTZRacing for expediting some replacement exhaust primaries for me. The motor sounded great and ran just as good!
The Feature did not go as well as planned though. The track stayed sticky all night and developed some deep ruts. Although we made adjustments, it was not enough. With a severe under steer, I did my best to adjust but really found myself just trying not to turn the car over. Then before we could finish the race I stripped the rear drive gear after bouncing through ruts in turn four. We had fun in our heat race though:)

It has been tough to go racing the past few weeks! The temperature has been almost unbearable. It takes real dedication from your team to come to the track and help out when it is as hot as it has been. Special Thanks to everyone who supports our race program;)
Saturday night was just like the past four Saturday nights. Its been hot, I've been drawing high numbers and starting at the back. It is very difficult to get to the front from the back, especially in this winged 600 class. Everybody is pretty fast during the heat race when the track is sticky and fast. So with only six laps to pass eight cars I run out of time very quickly. I normally get about four to five cars on the starts, however every start over the past few weeks has been called back and restarted. So, of course the second start is always harder than the first. (people try not to make mistakes twice) This leaves me fighting for position while the leaders drive away. (Scottie waves bye bye to the leaders)
Never fear! We still have the Feature, which gives me twenty laps to pass twenty four cars for a win! Wouldn't that be exciting! I have not been able to get it done yet. more to come, I have work to go do.
